Iran urged to persuade India to settle Kashmir dispute

Srinagar June 04 (KMS): Speakers at a seminar in Srinagar have urged Iran to play its role to persuade India for settlement of the Kashmir dispute.

The seminar titled ?Imam Khomeini: a symbol of Islamic politics? was organised by the Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian in Srinagar and was attended by leading religious scholars from across the valley. The Iranian Ambassador to India, Mahdi Nabizada, also attended the function.

Agha Syed Hassan Al Moosvi, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Mufti Bashir-ud-Din and Moin-ud-Din Ghazi were among the speakers. Other who were present on the occasion included Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Zafar Akbar Butt, Qazi Yasir and Moulvi Abdul Latif.

The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who presided over the seminar, on the occasion said, since Iran shares special relations with both India and Pakistan, it can play a crucial role in resolution of the Kashmir dispute. ?Iran being an important friend of both India and Pakistan can play an important role in impressing upon the both countries to solve the issue?, Mirwaiz said.

He also said that Iran and Kashmir had historical relations apart from wide-ranging affinities with regard to climate, culture, heritage and trade. ?We share 200-year-old relations with Iran and the central Asia. Kashmir is also known as Iran-e-Saghir?, he added.

The President of the Anjuman-e-Sharai Shian, Agha Syed Hassan al-Moosvi in his address said, Kashmiris are following the teachings of Imam Khomeini and Iran should have no hesitation in supporting the cause of Kashmiris. ?Kashmiris are following the path of Quran and Sunnah as impressed upon by Imam Khomeini, so Iran should support us,? he said. Al-Moosvi also released the monthly magazine Al-Irshaad on the occasion.

The Patron of Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen, Maulana Abbas Ansari while paying tributes to Imam Khomeini said, ?He was always sensitive to the sacrifices of the Kashmiris.? He also said that Imam Khomeini had once made it clear to a minister of India that the ?relations between the two counties cannot improve till the killing of people of Kashmir are not stopped?.

The JKLF Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik also appealed to the Iranian authorities to break their silence over the Kashmir issue. He said that the people of Kashmir were encouraged by the Iranian revolution to set off for the struggle for the Kashmir resolution.

Later, Iranian ambassador to India Mehdi Nabizadeh, accompanied by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq visited the historical Jamia Masjid in Srinagar. He was also accompanied by the councillor of the Iranian Cultural House.

The Iranian ambassador, according to Mirwaiz, was impressed by the architecture of the grand mosque. The ambassador was also presented a walnut carved memento by the Mirwaiz. According to media reports, the Iranian ambassador extended his invitation to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to visit Iran.
