Britney Spears Music Video Stills: Too Hot For YouTube!

With overt sexuality reminiscent of her days of yore and some gun violence to boot, Britney Spears' "Criminal" music video is being red flagged all over the Internet.

She's already been criticized by various groups for the armed robbery scene, and you can bet that the domestic violence at the beginning will spark more debate.

And then there's the shower sex. With her boyfriend, Jason Trawick.

All we can say is the PTC is going to have a field day cranking out letters about this one, and YouTube may have to hire more moderators to field the complaints.

Follow the above link to see the video in its sexy glory. Then click to enlarge some of the steamiest Britney Spears pictures from her "Criminal" video below:

92% Point Blank

"A desperate man is a dangerous thing."Samuel Pierret (Gilles Lellouche) is a nurse who saves the wrong guy -- a thief (Roschdy Zem) whose henchmen take Samuel's pregnant wife (Elena Anaya) hostage to force him to spring their boss from the hospital. A race through the subways and streets of Paris ensues, and the body count rises. Can Samuel evade the cops and the criminal underground and deliver his beloved to safety?REVIEWSamuel, a nurse-in-training at a Parisian hospital is suddenly in the middle of a conspiracy, and he has no way out until he can get his wife back. Simple enough? Not quite, but here is a movie that is like "The Fugitive" on steroids, powered by dynamic direction, and a very charismatic couple of lead actors. Samuel, find himself, avoiding bullets, thugs, cops, killers, cars, trains, security cameras, and that's just the background. He is also dealing with a very personal crisis, and there are a couple of sensational scenes that take place in the middle of a very busy train station, and if you have ever been in one of those European transportation hubs, you can almost feel his pain, as he is trying to avoid being captured and killed. The second scene involves a hectic police station, and some very creative plot twists. Here is a film many should see in its original version (I'm already thinking it will probably go through a least creative American reworking), but it is perfectly enjoyable the way it is; actually it's quite a thrill to see that in addition to films like "Tell No One", French filmmakers are producing some very interesting films, with non-stop action. You will feel your heart beating almost out of your chest.

Pap Test Still Best for Cervical Cancer Screening, Experts Say (HealthDay)

MONDAY, Oct. 17 (HealthDay News) --Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing isn't likely to replace conventional Pap tests as a cervical cancer screening tool among women older than 30, a new report suggests.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force published recommendations for cervical cancer screening in 2003, and researchers are now seeking to fine-tune these guidelines. The results from two evidence reviews, both published Oct. 18 in the Annals of Internal Medicine, seek to clarify and improve upon these guidelines.

"Cervical cancer screening is a public health success story," said study author Dr. Evelyn P. Whitlock, a preventive medicine specialist at Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland, Ore. "The number of women dying from cervical cancer has been cut in half due to regular screening."

But "there are still about 12,000 women diagnosed with cervical cancer every year and 4,000 women die from cervical cancer each year," she said. "We need to continue to improve so we have a fully successful screening program. We are trying to improve on success and that is a pretty high bar."

To compare the two types of testing, the researchers analyzed four studies they deemed of fair-to-good quality, encompassing nearly 142,000 women.

HPV causes many cases of cervical cancer, and incorporating HPV testing into cervical cancer screening programs may catch more at-risk women. However, the researchers found that HPV testing, on its own, yields too many false positives which results in unnecessary testing, anxiety and health care costs for many women.

According to the new report, HPV testing is more sensitive, but less specific than the Pap test, Whitlock said. "This means that more women who have nothing wrong with them will test positive with HPV testing, and this may cause potential harm," she said.

During a Pap test, a doctor scrapes cells from a woman's cervix and a laboratory examines these cells for abnormalities. When a type of Pap test called a liquid-based cytology test is performed, testing for HPV can be performed at the same time.

Dr. Elizabeth A. Poynor, a gynecologic oncologist and pelvic surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, said this is a work in progress. "We are still learning how to incorporate HPV testing into our current algorithm," she said. "Women need to ask their physician which screening strategy is best for them based on their personal risk factors."

Another review article looked at the appropriate ages to initiate and discontinue cervical cancer screening. The authors conclude that screening for cervical cancer should continue to begin at age 21. If a woman age 65 or older has had an adequate number of normal Pap test results and is not considered high risk for cervical cancer, she can stop screening at age 65. Older woman who are considered at high risk for cervical cancer include those who have had previous high-grade cervical lesions or a history of cervical cancer.

Dr. Mark Wakabayashi, chief of gynecologic oncology at the City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, Calif., said that the real issue is that some women never get either test. "The ones who don't get Pap tests are the ones who are dying from cervical cancer," he said. "We are trying to be more cost-effective with our screening for cervical cancer, but we don't want to mess with success."

Supernatural ?Defending Your Life? Review

Supernatural?s fourth episode of the season premiered on the CW. Skipping on the usual demon fare, this time around Dean and Sam are up against an Egyptian God, Osiris. Get the full review of the ‘Defending Your Life’ episode below. Another great mytho episode came from Supernatural this week. Exploring the unmerciful Egyptian god Osiris, Dean and Sam were faced with dealing with the angry judge of the afterlife, resulting in Dean on trial. After torturing and killing several men, Orisis manages to kidnap a drunk and funny Dean, with Sam not far behind. One good thing to come out of the episode – things returned to normal between the Winchester brothers this week. Dean was right back at it as a lady’s man, and Sam was once again serious and deep into his research. Even some cracks at Michael Vick, The Good Wife and Judge Judy made Defending Your Life a funny and serious hour. Flashbacks to Jo and Dean were also a plus It’s nothing new to see Dean guilt ridden and overcome with the possibility that he has ruined his brother Sam’s life, but when Jo Harvelle comes back from the dead, Dean’s really wrought with despair. Wall Street protesters march to Times Square

In its biggest day yet, thousands of anti-Wall Street protesters rallied in Times Square on Saturday, buoyed by a global day of demonstrations backing their month-long campaign against economic inequality.

"Banks got bailed out, we got sold out!" protesters chanted from within police barricades. Police, some in riot gear and mounted on horses, tried to push them out of the square and onto the sidewalks in an attempt to funnel the crowds away.

Sandy Peterson of Salt Lake City, who was in Times Square after seeing "The Book of Mormon" musical on Broadway, got caught up in the disorder.

"We're getting out of here before this gets ugly," she said.

Police said that more than 80 people had been arrested in the course of the day, and two police officers suffered injuries and had to be hospitalized.

The Occupy Wall Street demonstrators had marched north through Manhattan from Washington Square Park earlier in the afternoon. Once in Times Square, they held a rally for several hours before dispersing.

Police spokesman Paul Browne said 42 of those were arrested in Times Square on Saturday night after being warned repeatedly to disperse, and three others were arrested while trying to take down police barriers.

Protesters assembled at Washington Square Park for an after-party Saturday night, but as a midnight park curfew fell, squads of police swept the park as demonstrators chanted and marched away. About 10 who stayed behind were arrested, police said.

Many demonstrators marched back to their main encampment at Zucotti Park.

Story: Protests go global, rampage, tear gas in Rome

Over the past month, the protests have expanded from New York's financial district to cities across the United States and abroad. Demonstrations were called this weekend in the U.S., Canada and Europe, as well as in Asia and Africa.

    7. Could Big Brother end up on your dashboard?

In New York, where the movement began when protesters set up camp in a Lower Manhattan park on Sept. 17, organizers said the protest grew to at least 5,000 people as they marched to Times Square from their makeshift outdoor headquarters.

The Times Square mood was akin to New Year's Eve, when the famed "ball drop" occurs. In a festive mood, protesters were joined by throngs of tourists snapping pictures, together counting back from 10 and shouting, "Happy New Year."

The protest arrived in Times Square at a time when the area was crowded with tourists and Broadway theatergoers.

Sandra Fox, 69, of Baton Rouge, La., stood, confused, on 46th Street with a ticket for "Anything Goes" in her hand as riot police pushed a knot of about 200 shouting protesters toward her.

"I think it's horrible what they're doing," she said of the protesters. "These people need to go get jobs."

New York police said about 70 people had been arrested, including 24 at a Citibank branch in Manhattan's Greenwich Village neighborhood, mostly for trespassing. Protesters said those arrested were trying to close their accounts. A Reuters reporters saw another five people arrested as the protest neared Times Square.

"It's not every day that you get to be at the most significant uprising in a generation," Occupy Wall Street said on its Facebook page. Protesters said they did not have any police permits for the New York demonstrations.

Police were directing protesters to stay on the sidewalk, saying they would arrest anyone who did not keep moving.

The march came a day after protesters at the heart of the "Occupy Wall Street" movement in New York exulted Friday after beating back a plan they said was intended to clear them from the privately owned park where they have slept, eaten and protested for the past month. They said their victory will embolden the movement across the U.S. and abroad.

"We are going to piggy-back off the success of today, and it's going to be bigger than we ever imagined," said protester Daniel Zetah after Friday's announcement that protesters could remain in the park.

In the U.S., marches were planned in cities large and small from Providence, Rhode Island, to Little Rock, Arkansas; to Seattle. About 200 people camped overnight in Detroit, a group spokeswoman said.

How does a group like Occupy Wall Street get anything done?

The U.S. protests were linking up with anti-austerity demonstrations that have raged across debt-ridden Europe for months.

A call for mass protests on Saturday originated a month ago from a meeting in Spain, where mostly young and unemployed people angry at the country's handling of the economic crisis have been demonstrating for months. It was reposted on the Occupy Wall Street website and has been further amplified through social media.

On Saturday, tens of thousands nicknamed "the indignant" marched in European cities from Sarajevo, Bosnia, to Stockholm.

In Toronto, about 2,000 people gathered peacefully and started to set up a camp in a park. Some of the protesters announced plans to camp out indefinitely in St. James Park and protests were also held in other cities across Canada from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Vancouver, British Columbia.

In Mexico City, a few hundred protesters gathered under the towering, stone Revolution Monument to protest "exploitation" by wealthy elites. In the border city of Tijuana, about 100 protesters gathered in the banking district, including many university students protesting against the lack of jobs for graduates.

Rallies across the USA
Marchers throughout the U.S. ranged from about 50 people in Jackson, Miss., to about 2,000 in the larger city of Pittsburgh.

"I am going to start my life as an adult in debt and that's not fair," student Nathaniel Brown told Reuters Television. "Millions of teenagers across the country are going to start their futures in debt, while all of these corporations are getting money fed all the time and none of us can get any."

In Miami about 500 protesters turned out carrying posters that read "People not profits", "This is the 2nd American Revolution" and "Heal America, tax Wall Street."

Nearly 1,500 gathered Saturday for a march past banks in downtown Orlando.

About 50 people met in a park in downtown Jackson, Miss., carrying signs calling for "Health Care Not Warfare."

Some made more considerable commitments to try to get their voices heard. Nearly 200 spent a cold night in tents in Grand Circus Park in Detroit, donning gloves, scarves and heavy coats to keep warm, said Helen Stockton, a 34-year-old certified midwife from Ypsilanti, and plan to remain there "as long as it takes to effect change."

"It's easy to ignore us," Stockton said. Then she referred to the financial institutions, saying, "But we are not going to ignore them. Every shiver in our bones reminds us of why we are here."

Hundreds more converged near the Michigan's Capitol in Lansing with the same message, the Lansing State Journal reported.

Rallies drew young and old, laborers and retirees. In Pittsburgh, marchers also included parents with children in strollers and even a doctor. The peaceful crowd of 1,500 to 2,000 stretched for two or three blocks.

"I see our members losing jobs. People are angry," said Janet Hill, 49, who works for the United Steelworkers, which she said hosted a sign-making event before the march.

At least 2,000 Occupy Denver demonstrators marched peacefully through downtown Saturday afternoon, the Denver Post reported. Five hours later, police and dedicated protesters clashed after dining tents were pitched at Civic Center park. Officers arrested 24 people and knocked down the tents.

Chicago protesters moved to an area in Grant Park Saturday night after a crowd of about 2,000 people marched from LaSalle Street and Jackson to Congress Plaza, north of Congress Parkway and east of Michigan Avenue, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Bearing homemade signs, American flags and printed banners, the crowd settled in the plaza to listen to a variety of speakers, while some participants erected tents and set up sleeping bags.

"This is our Tahrir Square," said one speaker, comparing the demonstration to protests in Egypt as part of what has been called the Arab Spring. "We're not going to take it anymore! We're going to take these streets!"

Police surrounded the park after a curfew while protesters refused to leave.

Slideshow: Global Occupy protests begin (on this page)

Another 5,000 marched through Los Angeles and gathered peacefully outside City Hall.

Michael Goodblatt, 29, a doctor at UCLA Medical Center, was at the protest with a group of doctors. He said they had all seen first hand how people had suffered during the recession.

"These are our people and we want to show our support because this affects everyone," Goodblatt said.

Rallies downtown, uptown
Retired teacher Albert Siemsen of Milwaukee said at a demonstration in the Wisconsin city that he'd grown angry watching school funding get cut at the same time that banks and corporations gained more influence in government. The 81-year-old wants to see tighter Wall Street regulation.

Around him, protesters held signs reading, "Keep your corporate hands off my government," and "Mr. Obama, Tear Down That Wall Street."

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick visited protesters in Boston's Dewey Square for the first time. He said that after walking through the camp, he better understands the range of views and was sympathetic to concerns about unemployment, health care and the influence of money in politics.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, a prominent civil rights leader, led a march in Washington that was not affiliated with the Occupy movement but shared similar goals. His rally was aimed at drumming up support for President Barack Obama's jobs plan. Thousands of demonstrators packed the lawn in the shadow of the Washington Monument to hear labor, education and civil rights leaders speak, including Sharpton.

Reuters and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Propofol expert testifying against Jackson doctor (AP)

LOS ANGELES ? Prosecutors trying the case against Michael Jackson's doctor on Thursday called a leading expert on the anesthetic propofol Thursday to begin telling jurors about the drug and its acceptable uses.

Prosecutors and several experts who have already testified contend that Dr. Conrad Murray's use of propofol to help Jackson sleep was a dangerous and reckless decision that cost Jackson his life.

Dr. Steven Shafer was expected to be the final prosecution witness in the case against Murray.

The trial was recessed for the day due to a scheduling issue and will resume Monday. Prosecutors were expected to rest their case next week after Shafer's testimony concludes.

Shafer helped craft guidelines for appropriate propofol dosing for sedation that is included in the packaging of every bottle that is sold.

Murray told police he was using the anesthetic to help Jackson sleep, which other doctors have testified was a gross deviation from the standard of care.

Defense attorneys were expected to rely on a colleague of Shafer to offer a counter-argument.

Authorities say Murray gave Jackson a fatal dose of propofol. Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Testimony began Thursday with Dr. Nader Kamanger, a UCLA sleep expert, being cross-examined by defense attorney J. Michael Flanagan about Jackson's insomnia.

Kamanger reiterated for jurors his view that Murray failed Jackson in multiple ways, including not calling 911 in a timely manner, not keeping medical records and not attempting to diagnose the reason why the singer couldn't sleep.

The defense case shifted Wednesday when an attorney for Dr. Conrad Murray revealed he was abandoning the theory that Jackson swallowed the fatal dose of the anesthetic propofol.

Previously, Murray's attorneys repeatedly told jurors they will show Jackson self-administered either the anesthetic or the sedative lorazepam without Murray's knowledge. They had invested months before the trial on the theory that Jackson somehow drank propofol and caused his own death.

Flanagan stunned a judge and prosecutors by saying the results of a study he commissioned confirmed that if Jackson swallowed the anesthetic, its effects would be "trivial." He said the issue wouldn't be raised with jurors.

Murray's attorneys may still argue that Jackson gave himself the fatal dose of the drugs, but a pair of experts told jurors that even if that happened, it didn't change that Murray went far astray from medical norms.

The experts, a cardiologist and Kamanger, who both practice emergency medicine, said Murray should have never been giving Jackson propofol as a sleep aid.

He also noted that Murray left the singer alone in his bedroom on June 25, 2009, with a variety of drugs readily available.

Jackson's death, he said, was "a foreseeable complication."

Murray could face up to four years behind bars and the loss of his medical license if convicted.

Egypt to review church permit disputes after violence (Reuters)

CAIRO (Reuters) ? Egypt said Thursday it would launch a review of disputed permits for churches in a bid to head off sectarian violence, days after 25 people were killed at a demonstration by Christians over one such dispute.

Sunday's violence, the worst since the fall of President Hosni Mubarak in February, has given rise to fears of widening sectarian unrest. Christian activists say the deaths were caused by security forces who reacted with disproportionate force, driving into the crowd after "thugs" attacked protesters.

Christians, who make up about 10 percent of Egypt's 80 million people, say Islamists have been using disputes over the legal status of some church buildings to provoke hostility.

The Justice Ministry was charged with "forming a committee to review all the incidents that occurred in the past few months concerning disputes over churches ... to identify those responsible and take appropriate action," Information Minister Osama Heikal said in a statement on state television.

He referred to cases where churches had been attacked or damaged, including one in Helwan near Cairo in March and another in the capital.

The government would "settle the situation of unlicensed churches," he said. He did not give details but the comment suggested that the aim was to legalize churches in dispute, which Christians have demanded.

Christians have long complained of discrimination in Egypt, citing rules that they say make it more difficult to build a church than a mosque. They say they fear a worsening of sectarian violence because of the emergence of Islamist groups that were suppressed under Mubarak.

In Sunday's protest, Christians who took to the streets accused Muslims of partially demolishing a church in Aswan province at the end of September. Muslims in the village say the building did not have a license, but deny attacking it.

Edgar moving to No. 4 on Yahoo! Sports? pound-for-pound list, Dana White says he?s No. 2

The competition for label of top five fighter in the world is heating up nicely. That's because the fighters in the 135, 145 and 155 pound divisions are now getting the respect they deserve.

Frank Edgar, the lightweight champ, is moving up to No. 4 on the latest Yahoo! Sports' pound-for-pound list, but Dana White says that still too low.

"He's the Arturo Gatti of MMA. I have so much respect for him. I'm going to say it here tonight and I don't care who disagrees, you're wrong and I'm right ... He's the No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, period," White said following UFC 136.

White's reasoning? The UFC president says Edgar is fighting out of weight class and still excelling.

"[...] If you really look at what pound-for-pound means, you cannot deny that Frankie Edgar is No.2. The guy weighs a 145 pounds, he's beating guys at 155 pounds," said White.

White admitted that he was extremely emotional after the Edgar-Gray Maynard fight at UFC 136, but he'd never seen anything like the comebacks posted by the champion.

"How many times have you seen where a guy gets hurt as bad as he did in the first round. I told you that's movie [expletive]. That stuff doesn't really happen in true life. There's two guys I've seen do it - Arturo Gatti and Frank Edgar," White said. "What he did the last time and this time ... he's an amazing human being. He's an incredible athlete. He's got a heart the size of this room. I mean, that's no promoter [expletive]."

Edgar deflected all the love by simply saying "it's a Jersey thing."

"He had 'Snooki' and 'The Situation' out there, he couldn't let them down tonight," joked White.

Edgar moving to No. 4 on Yahoo! Sports? pound-for-pound list, Dana White says he?s No. 2

Do you agree with White's explanation? Yahoo! Sports' Kevin Iole pressed both fighter and promoter on the fact that Edgar did get rocked in both fights. The greats don't get rocked consistently, do they? Or does the weight class explanation hold water? Edgar is great and he is on top of the most competitive weight class in the world.

16 zombie actors injured on 'Resident Evil' set (AP)

TORONTO ? Sixteen actors dressed as zombies were injured Tuesday when they fell from a platform during filming of a new movie in the "Resident Evil" series, officials said.

Toronto emergency medical spokesman Peter Macintyre said the victims' costumes made it difficult at first for crews to assess the severity of their injuries.

Paramedics responded to the call from Cinespace Film Studios around 8 a.m. to find what appeared ? thanks to Hollywood special effects makeup ? to be people who had suffered some untold catastrophe.

"I could see the look on the first paramedic, saying 'Oh my God,'" Toronto emergency medical services Commander David Ralph said with a laugh.

Toronto Police Sgt. Andrew Gibson said responders quickly figured out which zombies were injured and which were just in character. "It did kind of catch us off guard when we walked in," he said.

As it turned out, the victims had suffered leg, back and arm injuries. Twelve were taken to a hospital. Officials said none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Police Constable Tony Vella said the actors had been filming a scene on a high wheeled platform. The platform moved as they were going to another platform, leaving a gap into which the zombies fell.

Cinespace Film Studios did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"Resident Evil: Retribution" is the fifth installment of a franchise based on the popular video game series and will be distributed by Screen Gems and Sony Pictures.

Lead actress Milla Jovovich was not on set at the time of the accident, according to her representative Christine Tripicchio.

Vella said the incident is classified as an industrial accident. Canada's Ministry of Labor is investigating.

Tuesday's 'crucial' GOP debate: 5 key questions (The Week)

New York ? The Republican presidential candidates will battle in New Hampshire on Tuesday evening. Here's what you should watch for

The Republican presidential candidates will face off once again Tuesday night at New Hampshire's Dartmouth College, and things will look a little different this time. Instead of lecterns, all the candidates will be seated around a table. And replacing Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the central frontrunner's slot will be former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain. The long string of debates is surprisingly relevant this year, says The Washington Post's Karen Tumulty, who is co-moderating Tuesday's economy-focused event. The GOP almost always has a clear frontrunner at this stage, but this year, each debate seems to welcome ? or create ? a new star. What's at stake in this one? Here, five key questions.

1. Will Rick Perry turn around his flagging campaign?
The debate is "crucial" for all the candidates, but especially Perry, says Dave Montgomery in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. His series of "universally panned" debate performances started a precipitous slide in the polls, and Tuesday's "opportunity for a political do-over" could revive his fortunes. On the other hand, "if Perry stumbles again, coming off as inarticulate or defensive, the damage to his campaign could prove terminal," says Jonathan Martin at?Politico.

2. Will everyone attack Mitt Romney?
When Perry was top dog, his rivals mercilessly piled on him.?This time around, "Romney might finally be treated like an undisputed frontrunner" and get the same treatment,?says Kevin Glass at?The American Spectator.?Perry, for one, has already foreshadowed his planned attack on Romney, releasing a?dramatic ad?Monday pillorying the former Massachusetts governor's health care record. He won't be the only rival trying to "knock Romney off his game" Tuesday night, says the AP's Philip Elliott. With time running out before the voting starts, expect "a scattershot effort to deny Romney the nomination by any means necessary."

3. Will Herman Cain soar or flop?
Tuesday's debate is "Herman Cain's moment," say Chris Cillizza and Aaron Blake at?The Washington Post. Thanks to his recent surge in the polls, Cain will finally be treated as more than an "afterthought." He's "done well ? generally ? in the debates so far," but can he use his "rhetorical gifts" to sell his economic ideas? Probably not, says Jonathan Bernstein at?The Washington Post. What Cain is good at ? pounding some limited talking points on his 9-9-9 tax plan and delivering a joke ? is great for the peanut gallery, but his "lack of even basic policy chops" won't play well on center stage.

4. Will Mormonism be an issue?
After the weekend's "flare-up over Mormonism at the Values Voter Summit in Washington" ? a Rick Perry supporter blasted the religion as a "cult" ? will religion play a role Tuesday??asks Thomas Burr in The Salt Lake Tribune. The debate is supposed to focus "entirely on economics," says Michael Shear in The New York Times. But if either of the Mormon candidates does get a question about his faith, expect Romney to "try and deflect it quickly" and Jon Huntsman to be more outspoken in defense of his church. It's anyone's guess how the other candidates would react: So far they've mostly "dodged questions" about the Mormon flap.

5. Will this debate have a breakout moment?
"If the earlier debates are any indication, we should all expect the unexpected" Tuesday night, says The Washington Post's Tumulty. Little moments at the previous half-dozen debates have had a huge impact on the GOP race ? Tim Pawlenty sinking and then dropping out after "whiffing a question" on "RomneyCare," for instance. Will something reshape the highly fluid race again in this debate? Pay particular attention to the segment in which the candidates will be encouraged to directly grill one another.

Communication And Conflict Resolution Between Parents And ...

Parents on the other hand have difficulties relinquishing control resulting in conflictual parent-adolescent communications pathways and potentially escalating negative consequences for all involved. The adolescence stage is a developmental phase that requires a restructuring of the parent-child relationship in which communication plays a central role.

Research shows that most parent-adolescent conflict tends to be about mundane issues such as personal appearance, curfews, telephone usage, completing chores and homework among such issues. It is however suggested that such mundane conflicts may be proxies for concern over more complex and sensitive issues involving trust, independence, peer influence, risky behaviors and sexuality.

Several investigations have established that frequent and often intense relationship breakdowns between parents and adolescents can have severe effects contributing to the externalizing and internalizing problems including delinquency, running away form home, substance abuse, adjustment disorders, low self esteem and depression. On the parents side such ongoing conflict has been found to contribute to parental dissatisfaction depression, anger and marital distress (Robin & Foster, 1989).

Given the likelihood of negative consequences resulting from dysfunctional parent -adolescents relationships, the goal of treatment is to improve communication between parents and adolescents. Highlights for the intervention have included the need to assess the nature of interpersonal conflict in order to improve parent-adolescent communication and negotiation skills.

It is however not clear, whether it is the quantity, intensity, source, perceived discrepancy and or emotional impact of the conflict between parents and an adolescent that contributes most to the poor parent-adolescent relations. The challenge for clinician therefore is to develop procedure that can assess and alleviate familial conflict.

Research shows that?from late childhood to adolescence, factors outside of the family become increasingly more predictive of adolescent problem behaviors. Dysfunctional conflict, engendering beliefs, anger, triangulation, cross generational coalitions, and shifting parental coalitions get in the way of family members responding and negotiating in a constructive fashion.

Foster and Robin (1997,1998) propose that family problem solving, communication patterns, belief systems and family structures mediate the intensity, frequency and pervasiveness of family conflict. They developed a behavioral Family system therapeutic approach to treat conflict in family which includes:

a) Educating and teaching family members how to negotiate conflict, focusing on solution-specific disputes

b) Remeding negative communication patterns and nurturing self regulatory affective and cognitive skills such as learning how to communicate without antagonizing

c) Cognitively restructuring dysfunctional conflict-engendered beliefs and attributions

d) Engaging family members in problem-solving and behavioral contracting

e) Engaging in self monitoring and practicing how to apply these skills

f) Learning to challenge their belief systems through personal experiment at home

This approach has two constructs based on communication and conflict; fundamental to any understanding of a parent-adolescent relationship. A study done by Smetana and Gaines (1999) established that about 1/3 of parents -adolescents conflicts are resolved by the adolescent submitting to the parents. In the other 2/3, the parents concedes, uses threats and punishments, compromises, seeks a mutual solution, or lets the issue go unresolved.

The best approach to parent-adolescent conflict involves thorough functional assessment of the nature of scope of parent-adolescent conflict. It is important to consider barriers that hinder conflict resolution and the strength that help. Engaging the whole family by encouraging engagements towards one another helps. Distorted cognitions as well as dysfunctional communication and problem solving skills must be addressed to prevent the escalation of the problem.

Article Starts from Here:

Even if you live where it is warm and sunny most of the time you may find you need a heater for your swimming pool. This way you can enjoy it all the time at a temperature that you are comfortable. You will be able to control how cool or warm you want the water which is an advantage over going to a public swimming pool.
You will find there are quite a few efficient heaters out there too for swimming pools. You may find that the one that came with your swimming pool isn?t among them though. If you find you are paying an arm and a leg for the resource then it may be time for upgrade. The investment you make with one that may cut your expenses in half will certainly pay for itself in no time at all.
There are also solar swimming pool heaters you should take a look at. These collect power from the sun into cells. That power is then converted to energy that is used to heat your pool. If there isn?t enough energy collected to heat it for the entire day then the backup source of electricity will take over when it runs out. The next day the solar energy will be collected once again.
You can further reduce the amount of energy required to heat the swimming pool by keeping it covered when not in use. This will allow it to maintain the heat that it has better than when it is just being mixed with the cool night air. It can be time consuming to place a cover on the swimming pool though. Investing in an electric tarp is very fast and effective. They are made for all shapes and sizes of swimming pools as well.
You do need to make sure the swimming pool heater you choose is sufficient for the size of your swimming pool. Don?t try to save money by installing one that is too small for the size of it. In the long run you will end up paying out more. You also won?t enjoy your swimming pool as much as you could be. You may need a professional to help you find the right one to invest in. With solar heaters the more panels they have the more energy they can collect at one time. You should strive to operate only on solar power for the heat instead of going back and forth between it and the electricity.
If you are shopping around for a swimming pool right now, the quality of the heater is something to really consider. Too many consumers don?t realize how important it really is until they already have the swimming pool installed. By knowing this is a feature you need to evaluate you can be sure you get the best possible overall swimming pool and equipment you can for the money you invest in them.
With a great heating system you will be able to enjoy your swimming pool all year round. You also won?t be afraid to open your electricity bill because of it. Make sure you routinely inspect your heating system too. That way you can avoid any major problems with it. Take a look at your warranty information too so you can get assistance if you do experience any problems.
