Family escapes burning home in Dalworthington Gardens | The ...

Staff writer Eric Sheffield reports:

A fire heavily damaged a one-story Dalworthington Gardens home in the 3600 block of Orchid Lane early this morning.

Dalworthington Gardens firefighters arrived shortly after midnight Sunday to see flames shooting through the roof and quickly called in backup from Pantego, Arlington, Forest Hill and Kennedale.

A family of five who lived there woke up when they smelled smoke, and all fled to safety. The family?s three dogs were rescued by firefighters.

The fire was eventually put out after some setbacks caused by heavy wind, but the roof was completely burned off of the home.

A Forest Hill firefighter suffered a cut to his hand and was transported to a local hospital.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
