Its That Time... Basketball Madness & Reese's Basketball Cupcakes

Reese's Basketball Cupcakes

Are you as excited as we are for the upcoming basketball tournament?? My husband and I love filling out our brackets every year in hopes that we might get lucky and win my husband?s family?s bracket contest.? As it is very large, we haven?t even come close.? I think this might be our year!? This year will be even more fun as my son is getting more and more into watching sports with mommy and daddy.? We are, of course, cheering for the Hoosiers as they battle to be on top of the tournament.? GO IU!!!

In addition to all the fun activities we do as a family, my co-workers have a little fun filling out tournament brackets? for a friendly little competition at work.? This year I wanted to surprise everyone with some fun basketball themed snacks.? My absolute favorite candy is Reese?s. Do you remember my Chocolate and ?Peanut Butter Cup Popcorn recipe using the mini Reese?s Peanut Butter Cups?

Well? that was a huge hit at my house.? I thought I would do another Reese?s dessert, only I wanted to do it basketball themed. My inspiration came from the candy itself. ?Reese?s are orange, yellow, and brown so immediately I thought of decorating the cupcakes to look like basketballs.

First, I needed to visit Walgreen?s to gather all of my ingredients.? I also wanted to pick up some Diet Coke and Coke Zero because Walgreen?s was having a great deal on them.

I have a lot of plans for all of this candy and I will be stocked up on Coke products for a few weeks.

The mission on hand is to create the basketball cupcakes to bring into work on Monday. Using the Reese?s candy, I made a plan. Like most of my first plans, it was a big flop. Originally I thought I would cut the brown Reese?s candies to use as the stripes of the basketball.? As you can see, I don?t think they looked exactly like a basketball.

Basketball Cupcake Disaster

So I opted for covering the top with orange Reese?s candies and then piping on some of the spare chocolate frosting that I had left after frosting the cupcakes. This looked more like what I was envisioning when I started the project.

I think the crew at work will enjoy these.? Maybe they will even let me win the tournament this year?? Yeah right? fat chance those guys are competitive. ?It is going to take more than basketball cupcakes, but its a start!

Be sure to visit Walgreens this basketball season to pick up everything you need for?#SnackMadness. ?Good luck in your brackets.
