In the latest Iwata Asks, which is a series wherein Nintendo of Japan president Satoru Iwata is interviews and questions Nintendo team members, Iwata revealed the early design for the Wii U GamePad controller.
The following image is?a cardboard prototype of the Wii U GamePad, created by Kazuyuki Motoyama. Motoyama is?a designer from internet company Hatena.
?We wouldn?t know how it felt unless we could actually hold it, but since we didn?t have one, the only thing to do was make one. In the middle of the night, I cut pieces of cardboard and glued them together.?
To present the possibilities of a real GamePad controller, the design was made so that you could slide different pieces of paper into the screen.
It may be just a collection of cardboard and glue, but I bet that sucker would reach a price of many digits if listed on eBay.
I think this is pretty cool ? at first glance it looks like a real, usable plastic controller. The fact that this was made in the middle of the night as a professional-looking prototype is testament to?Motoyama?s dedication.
