EL PASO, Texas (AP) ? An embattled West Texas school board is about to decide the futures of two administrators amid a testing scandal.
The El Paso school board meets Tuesday to vote on the dismissal of an assistant superintendent and an assistant high school principal.
The meetings comes weeks after the Texas Education Commissioner Michael Williams said the district should take harsh action to punish those involved in the high-stakes tests cheating scandal that shook the district. Last week, Williams named a new board to replace the trustees, but federal voting rights laws require the new board to get Justice Department approval.
In October, ex-superintendent Lorenzo Garcia was sentenced to more than three years in prison after pleading guilty to fraud by preventing low performing students from taking the tests.
