GVSU sweeps Notre Dame (Ohio)
In Auburndale, Fla., the Lakers opened their season by defeating Notre Dame (Ohio) 8-1 and 5-2.
In the nightcap, winning pitcher Sean Clancy scattered seven hits and two earned runs over six innings. Brad Zambron picked up the save to match the school and GLIAC records in that category.
Zambron needs five more saves to match the NCAA Division II mark.
In the opener, first baseman Giancarlo Brugnoni slugged a two-run homer in the first and finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Three GVSU pitchers, including starter and winner Chris Ward, gave up six hits over seven innings.

GVSU senior honored by GLIAC
Grand Valley forward Tyrone Lee has been named the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week.
In GVSU?s 81-73 victory against visiting Ferris State in the regular season finale, Lee contributed his second career double-double. The senior led all players with 20 points and 17 rebounds. Lee shot 7-of-13 from the field and made 6-of-10 free throw attempts.
His 17 rebounds are the most by a GVSU player since Feb. 21, 2002, when former Laker Jason Bauer notched 18 boards in a home game against Michigan Tech.
Lee was just two rebounds shy of Ferris State?s team total of 19 boards. He equaled the Bulldogs on the offensive glass, as both Lee and Ferrs State had four offensive rebounds.
In the second half alone on Saturday night, Lee recorded a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. That effort comes on the heels of a 21-point, 14-rebound outing at Northwood on Feb. 16, just three games prior to the FSU victory.
Softball
GVSU wins two games
In Clermont, Fla., Grand Valley defeated Lewis (Ill.) 5-3 before shutting out Assumption (Mass.), 4-0, at the NTC Spring Games.
Against Lewis, senior Hannah Santora pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits and three runs in her third win in as many days. Miranda Cleary was the only Laker to record two hits as she was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Senior Nellie Kosola went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in game two against Assumption.
