Warm weather welcomes start of Ulster County women's golf tourney

KINGSTON, N.Y. -- Steamy weather conditions are forecast for the first two days of the Ulster County Women?s Golf Association (UCWGA) Tournament, which starts its 55th edition today at Apple Greens Golf Course in Highland.

AccuWeather calls for a? high temperature of 95 degrees today with a possibility of afternoon thunderstorms, while Saturday?s second round at Fallsview Golf Course at the Honor?s Haven Resort in Ellenville has a high chance of heavy thunderstorms with temperatures hovering around 90.

The weather is expected to ease to 83 degrees for the final round of the 54-hole tournament on Sunday at Lazy Swan Golf and Country Club Village in Saugerties.

Reigning champion Kim Hines-Kaisik has won two of the last three tournament titles, alternating with two-time titlist Ellen Densen, who won in 2009 and 2011. Four-time winner Heidi Jewett (1993-95, 2004) is the third former winner in the 20-player field.

This year?s tournament will be the first since the death of former UCWGA president and longtime area golf historian and supporter Dorothy Rifenbary in April at age 88.
